Poinsett County has been selected as part of special federal grant funding to address drug issues in the county – specifically problems related to opioid use and addiction.

The people in charge of administering the grant do not live or work in Poinsett County, so they are not in the best position to identify the root causes, contributing factors, or strategies that would specifically work in Poinsett County. Input is needed from local residents to help inform and guide the process.

A broad, inclusive segment of the community is needed to provide input that can make the most impact. Participants are needed from all communities throughout the county, law enforcement, elected officials, business people, schools/educators, medical professionals, food banks, homeless shelters, unemployed, single parents, stay at home moms/dads, foster parents, mature-minded youth, individuals in recovery, etc.

All Poinsett County residents are invited and encouraged to attend. Participants should ideally live in the county, be engaged in some way in the community, be willing to help identify problems and work toward solutions.

School Closings

In the event of bad weather and schools are closed, all students and staff will recieve a recorded message to the phone number on record at your child's school. Please make sure your contact information is up to date. Families who need to update their information should contact their child's school. There will also be a message sent out on the phone/computer app SchoolConnect. You may check local radio and TV stations for information.

Many factors are taken into consideration when deciding to close school, but the safety of our students and staff will always be our number one concern.
